Available capabilities
A capability adds a component to an app: code, configuration, dependencies, and development or build commands. Select the components you need rather than assembling their wiring by hand.
For example, an app can combine a web frontend, a Python API, a database, and a workflow worker. The CLI installs required dependencies and checks that the selection is compatible.
Available capabilities
| Component | Capability | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Shared workspace | core | Common tooling and project configuration. Required and installed automatically. |
| Web frontend | tanstack-start | A TanStack Start web application. |
| Python API | fastapi | A FastAPI backend. |
| Database | postgres | A Postgres database and application configuration. |
| Workflow worker | workflows | A worker for durable workflows. |
| Studio deployment | apps | Configuration for deploying the app to Studio. |
| Observability | observability | Sends Mistral SDK and workflow traces to Studio. |
To list the capabilities your CLI offers, run:
mistral apps capability listStart with a preset
- App (
--preset app): a web frontend, a Python API, a Postgres database, and a workflow worker. - Workflow (
--preset workflow): a workflow project you can deploy to Studio.mistral workflows inituses this preset. - Custom: choose the components interactively when
mistral initasks what you want to build.
The app preset already includes the workflow worker. To add a worker to an app created without one, run mistral apps capability add workflows from its directory.
Change the selection
Add, remove, or update capabilities with the CLI. The required workspace and dependencies are included automatically. For the commands and how to review updates, see Selecting capabilities.
