Knowledge Base
Knowledge Base saves what matters from your conversations so Vibe can recall it later. Instead of restating your preferences, projects, and context at the start of every chat, you explain once and Knowledge Base carries that context forward.
Less repetition means more relevant responses and more productive conversations. Knowledge Base also surfaces what it knows when you search for a specific detail, so you can find a fact or preference without scrolling back through old conversations.
Knowledge Base is the successor to Memories and is available in Vibe Work. If you used Memories in Chat, your existing memories will migrate into Knowledge Base as a knowledge topic. Knowledge Base is Work mode only for now; Chat Memories remain available until the migration completes.
How it works
Think of Knowledge Base as a self-organized notepad: it saves what you explicitly ask it to save, and picks up recurring information from your conversations as a second mode. Two mechanisms decide what gets stored.
- Explicit saving: use keywords such as "remember" or "save" to tell Vibe to store a specific fact. For example, "Remember that I work with TypeScript," or "Save that my team uses Linear for tracking." This is the mode that works best for anything you want to recall reliably.
- Implicit saving: Vibe also detects recurring details that would be useful later, such as your preferred formats or the tools you rely on, and stores them on its own.
As you chat, Vibe reviews your knowledge at each turn in a conversation and decides which knowledge entries are relevant to the current task. Retrieval is non-deterministic: the same knowledge isn't used in every conversation, only when it fits the request.
You can see when this happens. Vibe displays a read pill when it consults your knowledge and a write pill when it saves a new entry. These pills appear inline in the chat, so you always know when Knowledge Base is active.
Knowledge Base captures information from your conversations and supports markdown and text content. You manage everything through the chat interface; there's no separate API for knowledge entries.
Get started
Knowledge Base is enabled by default. To set it up for the first time:
- In the sidebar, click
Context. - Click
Knowledge. - Click the
Get Startedbutton to test it with a first conversation.
Once set up, Knowledge Base runs in the background. You don't need to switch it on for each conversation. You can turn it off in your Privacy settings or from the Knowledge page.
Manage your knowledge
All your knowledge entries appear in the Knowledge section, where you can review and control what's stored. You can also enable Knowledge Base and delete all your knowledge from the action button at the top right of the knowledge page, in addition to your Settings.
- List: open the
Knowledgesection to see every knowledge entry Vibe has saved, with a title and description for each. - Edit: highlight the information you want to change and ask the model to refine it. For example, "Make this more specific," or "Add that I now use PostgreSQL." You can't edit the text of a knowledge entry directly; changes go through the model in chat.
- Delete a topic: click the three dots
...at the top right of the knowledge page and select the delete option to remove an entire topic. - Delete a single entry: ask Vibe directly in the conversation to remove a specific fact. For example, "Forget that I mentioned my location."
- Delete all: remove every knowledge entry at once from the action button at the top right of the knowledge page or from
Settings. This action is irreversible. - Export: export your data at any time from
Settingsfor a live copy of what's stored.
You can also ask Vibe directly in a conversation to remove, correct, or modify any knowledge entry.
Turn off Knowledge Base
To turn off Knowledge Base for your account, click your organization name at the bottom left of the sidebar, then Privacy. In the Personalization section, deactivate Knowledge ("Allow Vibe to automatically save and organize key insights from your chats."). You can also toggle it off from the Knowledge page. Your existing knowledge entries stay visible, but they no longer influence responses until you turn the feature back on.
Turning off Knowledge Base doesn't delete your stored knowledge entries. To remove them, use Delete all knowledge before deactivating.
Privacy and data
Knowledge Base is designed to give you control over what's stored and how it's used.
-
Sensitive data is handled carefully. No sensitive data (such as political opinions, religious beliefs, or health details) is stored in your knowledge, except for your previous Memories retained in Knowledge Base, if any.
-
Transparency. When a fact is added to your knowledge, it's indicated as a Knowledge Base entry, so you can always see what's been saved.
-
No inference or new information. Knowledge Base captures information from your conversations; it doesn't infer or create new information on its own. It's a source of context to support Vibe's responses, not a separate reasoning step.
-
No autonomous action. Knowledge Base doesn't let Vibe take actions on its own. Vibe remains bound by your Connector permissions and the same approval prompts as any other task.
-
Organization-level control. Workspace admins can disable Knowledge Base for everyone in the organization:
- Open the admin console at
admin.mistral.ai/vibe/preferences. - Go to the
Toolssection. - Turn off
Knowledge("Allow users to save and use personal Knowledge across conversations in Work mode").
When disabled, Knowledge Base is unavailable to all members.
- Open the admin console at
Knowledge Base works alongside other sources of context in Work:
- Custom instructions: set persistent preferences such as tone, format, and role that apply across every task.
- Projects: group conversations and context around a team, customer, or initiative.
- Connectors: let Work read from and act in connected tools such as email, calendar, Slack, and Notion.
